February 14th, 2023

Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration (MOTRI), Ethiopia and Ministry of Commerce (MOC) Pakistan, held virtual signing ceremony of Bilateral Trade Agreement Pakistan and Ethiopia.

Today, 14th February of 2023, Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration (MOTRI), Ethiopia and Ministry of Commerce (MOC) Pakistan, held virtual signing ceremony of Bilateral Trade Agreement Pakistan and Ethiopia. Ato Kassahun Gote, State Minister from MOTRI and MR. Muhammad Saleh Farouqi, Secretary Commerce, Ministry of Commerce, Pakistan signed the agreement on behalf of their Governments. The BTA signing ceremony was witnessed by Ambassador of Pakistan to Ethiopia Mr. Shozab Abbas and representative of Ethiopian Embassy in Pakistan. Both sides hope that the landmark Bilateral Trade agreement will help to boost bilateral trade, expand trade delegation level exchanges and enhance economic cooperation. The BTA envisages to establish Joint Trade Committee (JTC) and Business Council to implement trade-boosting measures to ensure rapid expansion and diversification of bilateral trade. Currently, bilateral trade between Pakistan and Ethiopia is hovering around 60 to 70 million USD, which need further impetus to cross the benchmark of 200 million USD within next two years timeframe. Pakistan and Ethiopia have big markets of 220 and 110 million people respectively and in the backdrop of current global geo-economic scenario, the BTA would play a constructive role not only to augment bilateral trade to the next level but also bring people of Pakistan and Ethiopia closer to learn from each other experiences. Further, Mr. Kassahun Gote welcomed the forthcoming visit of Pakistani business delegation in March to Ethiopia to explore market potential for Pakistani goods and merchandise and expressed his readiness to send Ethiopian delegations for the same purpose, in reciprocity, to Pakistan.
